Volunteer Opportunities

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The YMCA is a volunteer organization.  The Y was founded by volunteers, is led by volunteers and our Y has many more volunteers than paid staff.  Some countries operate with only volunteers, but in the United States a partnership exists between volunteers and paid staff.  We conduct background checks on both volunteers and paid staff.

Ways to volunteer:

  • One time project – come once for a specific project, special event, etc.
  • On-going regular scheduled position – help in the pool, coach a sports team, read to kids, teach a fitness class, etc.
  • Fulfill a school or work requirement – fulfill a certain number of hours as determined by work or school (internships available)
  • Fulfill a community service requirement – fulfill a certain number of hours as determined by a court or mediation

Current volunteer positions available: board member, grant writing assistant, child care room monitor, physical education assistant, swim instructor, tai chi assistant, water fitness instructor, financial assistance data organizer, fitness housekeeper, food service aide, groundskeeper, photo and videographer, youth center assistant, coach, climbing gym belayer,

Types of positions when available:

  • Policy Volunteers – board member, committee member, trustee, etc.
  • Fundraising Volunteers – grant writing assistant, special event volunteer, fundraising campaigner, etc.
  • Program Volunteers – child care room monitor, physical education assistant, swim instructor, youth sports coach, day camp counselor, fitness instructor, etc.
  • Support Volunteers – data organizer, housekeeper, food service aide, groundskeeper, receptionist, etc.

All applicants must successfully pass a background check.  We follow the State of Oregon Department of Education guidelines.
