Reclaim Your Health Virtual Series
Reclaim Your Health Virtual Series
Here at the Y, we know that staying active and reducing stress is sometimes easier said than done. Whether you are recovering from cancer treatment, immunocompromised or struggling to balance work and family life, our new RECLAIM: Cancer Exercise Video Series is here for you to use from the comfort and safety of your own home, on your own schedule. These videos draw from our specially trained instructors’ experience working with survivors over the last five years and include proven post-treatment exercise and self-care content. We recommend that you “Start Low, Go Slow.” The key is to not overdo it when you start any workout program. Starting at a slower pace may help prevent injuries, reduce fatigue and can make you feel stronger.
We would like to thank Texas 4000 and the Turell Group for giving us this opportunity to serve more people in our community in new and meaningful ways. The series includes:
Warm-up & Cool Down Stretch
This video includes a warm-up and a cool down section that can be done before and after the other videos in the series. The warm-up prepares your body for exercise and the cool down helps prevent blood pooling, muscle soreness and injuries.
Stretch, Balance and Range-of-Motion
In this video you will work to improve your balance, flexibility and range of motion. For this exercise video, you will want a sturdy chair and space to move.
Meditation
Find peace and relaxation with Author/Healing Artist Nancy Hopps as she guides you in meditation, awareness and breathing. For this exercise video, you will want a comfortable place to sit or lie down. Cushions, pillows or blankets can be used for support and to make you feel even more comfortable.
Aerobic Workouts
Get moving in this fun, two-part cardio and dance video, which is part of a series of workout videos made especially for those who’ve undergone cancer treatment. For this video, you’ll want plenty of safe space to move.
Strength Training
In this video you will work toward strengthening your body. For this exercise video, you will want a sturdy, armless chair, weights and a resistance tube or band.
Lymphedema Exercises
In this video, you will learn how breathing and stretching can help reduce lymphedema in the upper and lower body. Lymphedema refers to swelling that can occur in your arms or legs, commonly caused by the removal of or damage to your lymph nodes as a part of cancer treatment. For this video, you will want a sturdy, armless chair and a mat; a pillow is optional.
