The YMCA is a volunteer organization, without volunteers we just simply won’t be here!
Thank you for your interest in getting involved as a volunteer for the YMCA. We have a variety of ways for you to get involved please pick from the options below so we can best target your engagement. After we have received your application a YMCA Director or Coordinator will reach out to you soon to discuss volunteering with the YMCA!
All volunteers must pass a reference check and adult volunteers must pass a criminal background check and sexual registry screening.
Aquatics
The aquatics department is looking for lifeguards, swim lesson instructors, and water fitness instructors.
Experience is preferred but training will be provided.

Board Member
YMCA Board Members are selected from the community we serve. All new Board Members are reviewed and accepted by the current Board of Directors. We welcome applications at all times but acceptance on to the board will depend on the number of position open and the Board’s goal to create a truly diverse board.
Purpose: To enable the YMCA to accomplish our goals by: enacting policies and plans, deciding on issues; providing resources (most important is sustainable funding) to conduct our work; representing the YMCA in the community; monitoring YMCA activity, assessing results and taking corrective action as needed.
Qualifications: Board members are chosen for their individual attributes including character, capacity for leadership, expertise, professional experience, fund raising ability and community influence. Below is a list of some traits we are looking for in possible new board members.
- Enthusiasm for the YMCA and conviction to our mission and purpose.
- Demonstrated interest in community service and a willingness to give our time, effort and resources.
- The ability to assess important information and make sound decisions.
- Courage to state our views on important issues and presenting that view in a respectful and caring tone.
- Willingness to accept and support board decisions that are democratically made.
- Hold a high personal character, as a YMCA board and community member.
- Ability to deal openly and directly with other Board Members and Executive Director when displeased.

Fitness
The fitness department is looking for Group Exercise Instructors and Physical Education Assistants.
Experience is preferred but training will be provided if required.
Our passion is to help our members to develop, set and reach their goals. It is key to get our members connected first. Our Health & Wellness department at the Y would love volunteers who are passionate about their health and seeing others reach their goals.

Membership
The membership department is looking for outgoing and welcoming individuals to support members. This could include working in the Welcome Center or walking around as a YMCA Ambassador and checking in with members.
We are also looking for housekeepers or groundskeepers to help keep the Y ready to welcome everyone.

1-2nd Grade Team Coach / Assistant Coach
Is a weekly commitment of 2.5 hours a week. This commitment includes a 1-hour practice followed directly by a game on Saturdays.
*Coaches Meeting – September 12th, 2024 at 7PM located at the Rogue Valley Family YMCA (522 West 6th St, Medford, OR 97501
3-6th Grade Team Coach / Assistant Coach
Is a weekly commitment of 5 hours a week. This commitment includes hosting two 1-hour practices scheduled around your other commitments and a Saturday game (some weekends may include a doubleheader).
