Quarterly club focused on safe strength building and accomplishing goals
Whether you are brand new to lifting weights, or experienced and looking to increase your max lifts, the Barbell Club is for you! The intentions of this club are to improve your ability to perform resistance training movements safely and meeting goals by following a regular exercise plan. Ages ten and up are welcome to participate. Proper form will be instructed through weekly videos from the YMCA fitness staff as well as outside resources, always emphasizing safety. There will also be monthly in-person clinics for you to ask questions and have form assessed.
The goals being set are based on a cumulative weight total of “the big 3” lifts: the barbell back squat, the bench press and the deadlift. Declare your goal weight total when you sign up for the club that you will be working towards. There will also be accessory movements recommended to help build a foundation of strength and alternatives for participants that are working towards performing the full movements. Safety and injury prevention are our number one priority with resistance training.
The barbell club will be divided into four quarters. You can join at any time during the quarter. If you achieve the goal total weight you registered for during the quarter, you will earn the YMCA Barbell Club sticker with your goal weight on it! If you achieve a goal in all four quarters during 2023, you will earn the YMCA Barbell Club T-shirt.
